STUDIO SERVICES:
We offer the following services
- 30 minute private lessons in the studio (violin or viola)
- 60 minute private lessons in the studio (violin or viola)
For the convenience of students, the studio offers a two-tiered tuition program: they are the "a-la-cart" program, and the "term" program.
The "a-la-cart" programs are simply lessons that are scheduled one at a time or as a group of non-regular weekly lesson. Typical cases where a prospective studio client my desire to sign-up for "a-la-cart" lessons include (but obviously not limited to):
- a college student or travelling businessperson on break wanting or vacation desiring to stay current or motivated with the instrument;
- a child not taking regular lessons but preparing for a school orchestra or youth orchestra audition wanting to brush-up on skills;
- a child not taking regular lessons but preparing for a significant performance (church special, family wedding, talent show, etc.) wanting to brush-up on skills;
- an adult interested in lessons less frequently than 12 per quarter;
- a new student not yet sure if they want to play the instrument;
The term program are where the student commits to a package of 12 lessons spread out over a term of three months. There are 4 terms per year January through March, April through June, July through September, and October through December. A student can start term lessons at any time and any lessons that have already passed by at time of student registration will be fully pro-rated out of the term costs.
STUDIO POLICIES:
Registration
All incoming/returning students must complete a registration process prior to taking lessons. Registration includes, amongst other things, payment of tuition, specification of lesson time-slots, and documentation of student contact information for new students and auditions or progress report for current or returning students. During the registration process lesson times will be scheduled at the mutual convenience for the student and teacher and will be permanent for the term. For continuing students, a registration session will be scheduled during the last lesson of the term. Registration forms can be obtained by calling 888 657 4827, or registration can be initiated online at ChicagoViolinStudio.com by clicking on the "Sign-up For Lessons" link.
Payments
Tuition holds a slot in the schedule and is required in full, prior to lessons.
Term tuition can be paid either in a single payment, or it can be spread out over three monthly payments at the beginning of each month of the term (that option only available to credit card or check clients). A-la-cart tuition must be paid in full prior to the lesson.
Student Cancellation
Tuition pays for reserved time and not the actual lesson itself. Please consider the business model where under a prep-school, college, or university term system, when a student misses a class, the fee for the term remains unchanged. Similarly, studio term lessons missed by the student will not be refunded for any reason. In addition, the following applies:
a) If you must miss a lesson, you may attempt to switch lessons with another student
b) At instructor's convenience and discretion they may make up the class as either a private lesson or a group session, however, such an action shall not be taken to mean a change of the no make-up policy
c) A-la-cart lessons missed or cancelled with advance notification (prior to the lesson) will be refunded minus a lesson cancellation fee of $25
d) If a student needs to cancel an entire term or the rest of a term, this will be allowed provided that student gives instructor a minimum of 15 days advance notice. In that case, the remaining unused term balance minus a term cancellation fee of $50 shall be refunded to the student. If the minimum 15 day advance notice is not given, then the prorated cost of any scheduled lesson falling with 15 days of the cancellation notification shall be added to the term cancellation fee of $50, and the remaining unused term balance shall be refunded to the student.
Teacher Cancellation
Lessons cancelled by the teacher for any reason will be rescheduled or credit will be given towards the next month’s tuition.
Required Materials
Please bring to each lesson your violin, assigned books and materials, a pencil, notebooks and a metronome.
Parental Involvement
For students under 10 years old, a parent or guardian is expected to supervise daily practice, and is encouraged to attend the lesson.
Attendance
Please arrive several minutes prior to your lesson’s schedule start time. Students who are late for a lesson cannot be guaranteed their full lesson time.
Recitals
There will be at least one studio recital per year, and all students are highly encouraged to perform. A fee of no more than $25 will be collected before the recital to pay the accompanist for his/her time, to rent the recital space, and/or refreshments and related expenses. Specifics will be provided closer to the recital date.
